Ella Marie Bazart
“A Celebration of Homegoing”
The journey through this life for Ella Marie Bazart began on the 24th day of May, in 1942, here in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Born from the loving union of Christopher and Claria (Johnson) Bazart, Ella was affectionately referred to as "Lil‘ Sista “.
At an early age, Ella professed her hope in Christ. She grew up and attended schools in Okmulgee, where she graduated from the Historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1961. She was the President of her class. She furthered her education by attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Ella labored as a Ward Clerk at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital and also Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Tarkington united, with the Eastside Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. T. Oscar Chappelle, Jr. She served the Lord faithfully at Eastside in several capacities. She served as President of the Usher Board, Church Clerk, Church Secretary, Youth Leader, the Missionary Society, sang in the choir and helped drive in the Bus Ministry.
Ella was also active in her community. She was a member of the Okmulgee Community Choir, active in the Creek District Association, served on the Dunbar All-school reunion committee and the Martin Luther King Committee as well.
Her journey with us came to an end with the Master‘s beckoning on Monday morning, the 8th day of October, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Remaining to cherish her loving memory; her children, Adrian Adam Tarkington and Adriene Ann Tarkington, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her sister, Clarice Bazart, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; her brother, Peter Bazart and wife Florida, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Adrian, Antonio, Shardae and Tenae; one great-grandchild, Austin; a special great-niece, Monique; along with a caravan of other relatives, church family and friends who will miss her dearly. A beautiful spirit now rests with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
